Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Jose Antonio Vargas is crowdfunding for a new media platform “EmergingUS” and making his appeal: “It’s time to hear new stories. Challenge old narratives. Help us tell our story, all of us”.
Vargas wrote for the Washington Post, a member of the staff that reported on the Virginia Tech shooting which won the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Reporting. His role as an activist for undocumented immigrants started by writing in the New York Times Magazine that he was himself an undocumented immigrant whose parents came from the Philippines. Since then he has also produced documentaries about immigration (“Documented”) and white privilege ” became an activist for the Dream Act, and advocate for promoting better news coverage of under-served and marginalized communities.
