DAILY NEWS BRIEF: California governor race, LGBT family acceptance, petition for apology, the CIA and war refugees

In the news: Los Angeles Times reports that California’s current state treasurer John Chiang is entering the governor’s race to replace current Governor Jerry Brown. Glenn Magpantay, Executive Director of the National Queer Asian Pacific Islander Alliance writes in the Huffington Post about a campaign to garner support for LGBT children of Asian Pacific American parents. NBC News reports on a petition demanding an apology from President Obama and the Justice Department for the false espionage accusations against Chinese American scientists; the petition also is calling for ending the unjust criminal prosecutions of Asian Americans for economic espionage. NBC News features the documentary “Operation Popcorn” about a Hmong human rights activist caught in a CIA international weapons sting, set in the background of a refugee community who fought on behalf of the United States during the Vietnam War.
